EcoHouse is a community of people, homes and gardens in a neighborhood. It is a house and a place, and also a demonstration school for of ecological living. As a healthy community, it involves local people in its decision making and practices environmental and social justice. It is a place to re-create, to join hands, play and enjoy each other.  It is an ecological source of food and education, that involves people of all ages. It is, in fact, a total holistic and diverse community.

Most communities specialize, caught in living and working in some form of homogeneity.  EcoHouse is a vision, of what could be, not only for its local participants, but for others.  Its people are social entrepreneurs, who use all their varied skills to improve lives and land, creating healthy living for themselves and others.  It is a network of people within, and outside their neighborhood in Berkeley, focusing not on individual gain, nor economic profit, but on the dreams, needs, joys, and hopes of the people it touches.

Get details about the EcoHouse's greywater/constructed wetlands system, the first permitted for residences in Berkeley and in California. Read our Installing and Using Greywater fact sheet.
